Love Spotting: How to create a fake relationship

Written by Gary

In today’s world of busy schedules, late night drunk hookups, and missed connections on Craigslist it is no wonder that the way we interact and date is changing. First it went from calling to texting and sending anniversary cards via email but now it seems technology has found a way to replace the need for a girlfriend all together. This fake it until you make it strategy offers guys the ability to make it appear that a girl is actually romantically interested in them. I admit that while this idea seems kind of sad to me – it would probably work on me.

If a guy used this method on you it is conceivable that you would be more interested if you thought him in high demand. The minute a guy tells me he is attached I think “Oh no – he is off limits.” Then I immediately start devising ways that I can drive a wedge (my naked body) into his happy relationship (his naked body).

For those of you who are technologically illiterate I also found detailed instructions on creating a fake girlfriend or boyfriend using only your amazing skills at lying through your teeth.  If you wish to go this route, your directives are as follows:

  1. Decide on the fake boyfriend or girlfriend’s name. It should be something realistic, but memorable. Place names are in vogue right now, and those usually sound both realistic and easy to remember. Names like Dakota, Madison, Sierra, Brooklyn and Chase are good place names that are easy to remember.
  2. Come up with a picture for your fake paramour. The picture can be something downloaded from online, as long as it’s not of someone famous. Amateur photography sites have plenty of pictures of non-famous people in casual situations. Make a wallet size of the picture and a larger one to put in a frame. Keep the frame visible in your room or office.
  3. Get a paper trail of emails and messages from your fake boyfriend or girlfriend. Set up an email account with the fake name and email yourself regularly with jokes and romantic messages.
  4. Drop his or her name casually into conversations. When talking about a restaurant with friends, mention that Sierra got food poisoning there once. When discussing a movie, mention that Chase took you to that movie and you sat behind a bunch of loud kids. The situations you describe should be realistic and not too dramatic. Your tone of voice should be of admiration. Smile every time you mention him or her.
