Vintage flying photos.

These vintage air travel photos give us a glimpse into the past when travel was actually glamorous.

Unless you fly first class every time, I think its pretty safe to say that air travel is no longer glamorous. The last international flight I had was awesome because I got all kinds of food, snacks, and a complimentary sleep mask, but I was also crammed beside a 200 lb man that kept falling asleep on top of my in-flight movies. Back in the day, air travel was considered a luxury, so they treated it as such. Older airplanes even had crazy amenities, like beds, four course meals, and powder rooms– the kind of stuff you only see on planes heading to oil-rich nations now.

In the 50s and 60s even the stewardesses were like chic airplane models ready to serve you a club soda with a smile, and the captain usually had a sort of Ken-doll-with-tobacco quality about him. While the allure of vintage air travel is great, we’re just happy cabins no longer smell like smoke-filled bowling alleys and that some airlines manage to throw a plastic-wrapped biscotti or two our way.

Now, enjoy these vintage air travel photos that hearken back to a simpler time, when people didn’t dread going through the TSA security lines, or get the airport sh*ts every time they dared to drink a hot airplane coffee.
