This underground Transylvanian amusement park was built into an abandoned salt mine.
I don’t know about you, but visiting an amusement park located hundreds of feet underground that I have to take a mining elevator to get to sounds like the perfect recipe for a family vacation.
Located in Transylvania (yes, it is a real place), Salina Turda used to be a fully-operational salt mine until 1932, when it was used to store cheese. Editorial side note: GOD BLESS CHEESE. In 1993, someone decided it would make a great underground amusement park, and threw in some mini-golf courses, bowling alleys, a ferris wheel, and a carousel. If you look at the photos, the park looks like an underground space station, and even has an underground lake you can paddle around in.

If you are worried about hanging out in an underground mine that could potentially kill you, fear not- the air inside Salina Turda actually is of incredible quality due to the minerals in the walls, and even has a spa.
I don’t know if I am ever visiting Transylvania, but if I do I will definitely be stopping by Salina Turda for a facial and a turn on the ferris wheel.
