Two-For-Tea

Written by Steph

I’m a cappuccino chugging pro; a coffee contender. The only time I’m without my beloved is when I’m sick. When I’m feeling under the weather, the thought of coffee makes me want to puke and punch someone in the face at the same time. I admit, tea is not exactly my area of expertise; aside from tea of the Long Island Iced variety. What I’ve heard is that it’s supposed to make you feel better when you’re sick. This year, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to test that theory.

One recent discovery is Numi Organic Tea. I liked the concept; a brother and sister duo who worked together to create a worldly, organic, unique brand. Not only are they certified Organic; they’re also certified Fair Trade, Kosher, and Halal. Hooray! Unfortunately, Numi wasn’t exactly my cup of tea (har-har). It did make me feel better, but I should’ve been more vigilant about which flavors I experimented with– I tried Emperor’s Puerch Black Tea and Magnolia Puerh Organic Green Tea; both good, but I probably would have enjoyed the Raspberry Darjeeling Black Tea a bit more. The blends I tried seemed best suited for an advanced tea drinker, while I am merely a novice.

Inspired by Numi’s various flavors, I then set a new goal: finding a tea for the non-tea drinker (me). I found Kalahari Limited, an authentically South African tea brand with 15 blends– one of the newest being their ChocoLatté blend. I tried ChocoLatté’s Raspberry Truffle; an organic smorgasbord of Dark Roasted Cacao, Natural Raspberry Flavor, and Organic Chocolate Flavor. This tea is the perfect accent to any dessert dish, and also a win for anyone who doesn’t quite understand why they’re drinking tea in the first place.

While I won’t be forsaking coffee on a normal basis, I was pleased to find two earth-friendly alternatives to indulge in when battling the various illnesses that seem to only strike the uninsured.
