Top 5 Eyeshadow Trends For Spring

Written by Steph

Steph reviews the top 5 eyeshadow trends to keep an eye on this season.

Tis’ the season for Spring cleaning! Most of us will fall into old habits by ransacking our closets, scrubbing our floors, and throwing out the receipts that have taken up residence in our purses; neglecting to focus our attention on our makeup bags.  Your makeup collection needs cleansing, too! (Eyeshadow has a shelf-life of 3 years; so in this case, stash your favorite colors until the appropriate season returns.) Here are the Top 5 eyeshadow trends to keep an eye on this season.

1. All That Shimmers: wet n wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Single is the most wallet-friendly approach to a shimmering eye this season. At $1.99 a pop, you’ll have no trouble staying on trend. Try Kitten (a purple shade) or Penny (the name says it all) to experience two of the season’s most promising (and easy-to-pull-off) color crazes. For the more adventurous, try wet n wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio for $4.99. These eyeshadows reflect my favorite innovation in makeup– imprinted directions. You’ll enjoy three colors that tell you rather directly where they belong: browbone, crease, or eyelid. Perfect for any eyeshadow noob who wants a full eye without the guesswork. While wet n wild was probably a staple of your childhood, believe me when I tell you that not only have their colors grown up; they’ve already chalked their IDs and are ready to hit the club with you.

2. Golden Years: Gold is the spring and summer trend that never dies. Too Faced has a few eyeshadow duos (half shadow, half highlighter) that are guaranteed to look great on sunkissed skin. For a softer look, try George & Weezie (Icy Gold and Bronze Pearl). For a bolder, brighter eye; try Rich Bitch (Teal & Gold). Pick them up at Sephora for $17.

3. In the Nude: Nude eyeshadow is the look I’ve adopted since ringing in the new year. A soft pink or flesh-colored matte shadow helps brighten up the eye without taking the focus off of your natural beauty. Try Too Faced Heaven & Teddy Bear (Cream Matte and Chocolate), $17.00. If springing for pricey eyeshadow isn’t your thing, try wet n wild’s Brulee single. For a mineral alternative, try out Young Blood‘s Ora. It’s definitely a splurge at $19, but any fan of mineral makeup knows that the extra bucks make all the difference.

4. It’s Easy Being Green: Green still got it goin’ on, with no chance of slowing. Don’t forget– you’ve got St. Patrick’s Day and Earth Day coming up, so now is as good time as ever to get in touch with your inner green goddess. Try Sue Devitt’s Hydrating Marine Minerals line, a gorgeous green palette with botanical properties like Sea Butter and Shea Butter. A bit pricey at $37, the Green Isles compact offers four brilliant hues of green and is sure to last a few seasons.

5. Turn Around, Bright Eyes: If your makeup regimen focuses on helping you to stand out in the crowd, you’ll want to invest in MAKE UP FOR EVER eyeshadow. They have one of the most expansive eyeshadow lines available, but this Spring you’ll want to try matte neon colors on for size (orange was big on the runway this year, and looks best on blondies with blue eyes). If you’re brown eyed, try turquoise matte or neon pink matte. Green eyes should try the lavender matte.
