The Best Kept Hair Secret (that’s not that secret)

Written by Bryce

It’s no secret that I’m as obsessed with my hair as every other girl in New York, but, with as many hair salons as there are pizza places it’s often like navigating a labyrinth when it comes to finding the perfect place for a blowout, bang-trim, or fresh style. I recently re-discovered the Sassoon Salon in Midtown Manhattan and walked out feeling like Beyonce’s lovechild with 1970’s Cher: totally good hair, don’t care.

I walked in a frizzy victim of NYC summer humidity on a hot August night with hopes of coming out a new, smoother lady. I’m also not a fan of heavy chemicals, so finding someone to get my locks smooth with nothing more than some scissors, brushes, and a blow dryer isn’t the easiest. By the time I walked out though, my hair was impossible-levels of shiny smooth happiness. Elaine, my stylist & the Senior Creative Director in the salon, used the new collection for Fall 2014 as inspiration for my look (every season Sassoon updates their styles, much like a runway designer would), and with cuts starting at $98 (depends on the stylist), it’s about half of what other top NYC stylists charge. I think I was most impressed by what happened in the chair next to me as I got my locks trimmed and smoothed. A somewhat timid girl sat in a chair, looked directly into her stylist’s eyes, and plainly said “I don’t know, just, something new I guess.”

Within minutes her stylist had calmly talked her into bangs that came out so insanely fab I started to wonder if I, too, needed bangs. I overheard the stylist telling her about her facial symmetry, hair texture, and eye shape as he gingerly cut her forehead fringe — all signs that he really took her personal look and style into full consideration before updating her do. I’m looking forward to the launch of the AW/14 styles launching on September 2, partially because all my friends are always updating their looks, and partially because I’m always ready to daydream about the next one I’ll be trying for myself.

This post was sponsored, but I really did receive a cut and blowout that I loved from the Sassoon Salon in Midtown Manhattan. And yes, I truly believe they do a bang-up job on bangs (I love puns).
