20 Reasons to Stop Eating Sugar

Written by andy

Sugar is the delicious ingredient that makes your coconut cream crepe cake absolutely addicting, but it’s just not good for your health! You’ll find that sugar can actually cause serious long term health problems, so it’s time you cut back on or even eliminate your sugar consumption.

Not convinced? Here are 20 reasons you should stop eating sugar today:

  1. Sugar causes tooth decay. It feeds the bacteria in your mouth, causing them to wear down the enamel of your teeth and burrowing into the teeth themselves.
  2. Sugar causes acidity in your digestive tract. Sugar promotes acidity in your body, and an acidic pH balance can lead to a number of health disorders.
  3. Sugar causes hypoglycemia. When you eat too much sugar, your body produces insulin to lower it. However, it often lowers blood sugar levels too much, causing hypoglycemia.
  4. Sugar suppresses your immune system. A suppressed immune system makes it much easier for you to get sick.
  5. Sugar can raise fasting glucose levels. This increases your risk of diabetes, and causes a number of other health problems.
  6. Sugar can lead to tissue damage. Eating too much sugar increases reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the body, which in turn damages tissue and body cells.
  7. Sugar causes attention problems. Children that eat too much sugar tend to be cranky, anxious, and have a short attention span.
  8. Sugar causes fat storage. When you consume sugar in high quantities, your body stores more triglycerides–essentially fat in a form that your body can retain.
  9. Sugar causes premature aging. It makes it more difficult for your body to get rid of free radicals, which increase cellular decay rate.
  10. Sugar causes diabetes. Too many fluctuations in your blood sugar levels can cause your body to become resistant to insulin, which causes blood sugar levels to rise out of control.

  1. Sugar causes osteoporosis. It prevents your body from properly absorbing calcium, thus preventing your bones from receiving the nutrients that they need to stay strong.
  2. Sugar causes mineral deficiencies. Consuming a lot of sugar prevents proper mineral absorption, causing a serious lack of nutrients.
  3. Sugar causes fatigue and robs you of your energy. After the initial surge in your blood sugar levels, the sudden drop of energy caused by insulin will leave you drowsy and lethargic.
  4. Sugar causes cancer. The acidic pH balance promoted by consuming too much sugar is very conducive to the spread of cancerous cells.
  5. Sugar causes yeast infections. Candida yeast feeds off sugar, and high blood sugar provides the fungi with all the food it needs to spread.
  6. Sugar causes addiction. Sugar cravings are just as strong as nicotine, drug, or alcohol cravings, and can be highly addictive. The worst part: it’s not viewed as a dangerous addiction.
  7. Sugar causes obesity. Because sugar is all calories and no nutrition, your body stores more fat than it would if you ate low-sugar, high-nutrient foods.
  8. Sugar causes binging. The more sugar you eat, the more you want to eat. It increases the likelihood that you will binge and overindulge.
  9. Sugar promotes wrinkles in your skin. When you consume sugar, it changes the structure of the collgen produced by your body. This altered collagen cannot repair your skin, thus allowing wrinkles to form.
  10. Sugar reduces enzyme function. Consuming high quantities of sugar alters the way your body’s enzymes perform, leading to reduced internal function.

Blimey! That’s a lot of health problems caused by eating sugar. Perhaps it’s time to quit…
