Sand dunes all over the world are tired of keeping quiet, and have begun to sing in a super creepy lullabyes.

I don’t know if you know this about me, but I love some good natural phenomena. If I hadn’t grown up to be a full time snarky gay guy, I would definitely have been working in the outdoors. Meditation is something I also really enjoy, once a year, when I actually take the time to do it. Thus, singing sand dunes are right up my alley.

The phenomenon of “singing sands” occurs when sand dunes create low, eerie noises that sound like men chanting. The reason this occurs is a mystery, although theories state that it might be generated by the tumble of grains of sand in the wind. Singing sands have been recorded everywhere from the Kelso Dunes in California, to Nambia, Morocco, and Oman. The phenomenon also has to do with the size of the sands (doesn’t it always?) because the sound was more continuous in areas where the sand grains were all the same size, whereas it was more raucous when the sand grains were different sizes.
