Rules of Love

Written by Bryce

Ah, love.

The Persian poet Hafiz said it best. Love has nothing to do with being selfish, so here are some rules to live by:

1) You Can’t Control Love. All you can do is become someone that’s easy to love and hope for the rest to fall into place.

2) Real Love is Worth Waiting For. A slow baked cake tastes better than a microwaved one.

3) You Attract Love When You Love Yourself. When you put time, effort, and dedication into making yourself the best person you can be, the rest of the world will shower you with love and affection. That doesn’t mean spending your whole day on your physical appearance- it’s a careful balance of emotional, intellectual, and physical beauty that makes a person. Spending time helping others, reading National Geographic, learning to cook authentic Thai food, and regular rock climbing will make you friendly, well read and fed, and fit. Who doesn’t love that combo?

4) Love Should Be Savored. You never know when you’ll feel love, get love, or be smack in the middle of an all out lovefest… and those moments may be fleeting. Our parents, friends, and first loves don’t last forever so when we feel moments of deep love we should stop to take it all in. Life is simply too short to not appreciate the sweet moments.

5) There’s No Love Like the Love of a Child. Loving a child is a completely different ball game- it’s biology mixed up with emotions and history and all sorts of weird chemical cocktails that can’t nearly be described. It doesn’t matter if the child is your own, a relative’s, or adopted- there’s just something innately special about small humans that creates a whole new type of love in a person’s heart.
