Welcome to the Peacock-pocalypse

The city of Palos Verdes, California is chock-full of free-roaming peacocks.

Peacocks are my favorite animal, based on the fact that they are beautiful assholes, which I can relate to. So if I ever decide to move to a suburb of California, the Rolling Hills Estates in Palos Verdes will probably be my first choice.

Peacocks have had free range of the town for the last 100 years, believed to have come from India as a gift from a wealthy land owner, but recently they have become a horrible nuisance.  On any given day over 1,000 peacocks swarm the streets, trees, and rooftops of Palos Verdes, and apparently if you park under a tree in this town, you can expect a healthy dollop of peacock shit when you return. Peacocks are generally noisy which is already annoying, but they also damage cars and roof shingles, as well as block traffic.

Residents of the neighborhood have killed over 50 peacocks in the past two years with arrows, bullets, and poison, which has created a lot of backlash with peacock lovers and the peacock enthusiast community (take away the “pea” and you have a community I would proudly join).

As of right now there is no clear solution to the peacock invasion, but I think we can all agree that murdering the beautiful creatures isn’t the answer.

My suggestion is that they box them all up and ship them to Harlem. I would gladly put up with a little peacock shit to see such a beautiful creature outside my window every day.
