MICA: Opening Ceremony’s Wearable Technology That’s Actually Fashionable

Written by zoe

As much as we love tracking how many flights of stairs we’ve climbed each day, the FitBit/Nike FuelBand/Jawbone UP just doesn’t cut it in terms of arm candy. And to be honest, wearable technology hasn’t made any great strides when it comes to actually being fashionable until now. Enter MICA, Opening Ceremony’s answer to all of our wearable technology prayers.

Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony have collaborated with Intel to create this beautiful piece of jewelry and fantastic technology. Even without the sapphire touchscreen, we’d be happy to wear these 18-karat gold and snakeskin beauties encrusted with semiprecious stones on a regular basis. Keep your eyes peeled for these bad boys around early December. They’ll be available at Opening Ceremony’s in New York and LA, plus select Barneys locations, as well as on both outlets’ e-commerce sites, retailing at $495

While MICA does not aim to replace your phone, it does want to make connecting with the people you care about easier. Users can create a VIP contact list, which allows you to choose who can reach you via the wearable piece.

The MICA even boasts a 48-hour battery life, so you don’t have to worry about a “Low Battery” warning popping up in the middle of an important meeting.
