5 Deliciously Low Calorie Desserts

Written by andy

There’s no two ways about it: the holidays are tough for dieters like me and you. My family rocks at making delicious desserts – great examples being this white chocolate mousse parfait or these decadent triple decker chocolate peanut butter cupcakes. Holidays are a time when we all feel the need to indulge ourselves a bit, and it makes keeping our waistlines trim a challenge indeed!

Well, for all of your sweet tooths (sweet teeth?) out there, I’ve got great news: there are delicious desserts that also happen to be fairly low in calories. No, they’re not as decadent or luxurious as a cake heaped high with nutella, chocolate sauce, and cream cheese frosting, but they do taste wonderful after a good meal.

Here are 5 of my favorite low calorie desserts for you to try:

Cherry Merlot Granita

Imagine cherries soaked in delicious red wine, with a hint of orange thrown into the mixture for good taste. You’ll find that it’s one of the most delicious fruity desserts that you can make, and it’s actually pretty easy to whip up.

You only need a few simple ingredients, all of which can be found at any grocery store. Have this dessert handy all season long, and you’ll never find yourself lacking for a Christmas dessert when you need something sweet.

Caramel Apple Oatmeal Cookies

Just the words “Caramel apple” are enough to get most our mouths watering, and mixing in the world-favorite oatmeal cookie is just icing on the low-calorie cake. The recipe calls for dried apple rather than fresh, and a few caramel candies give these cookies their wonderful flavor.

The beauty of these cookies is that you can make a whole lot of dough in just a few minutes, and have the dough sitting in your freezer – ready to bake any time you want a few delicious Christmas cookies on hand.

Chocolate Amaretti Peaches

If you love the combination of fresh and rich flavors, this is definitely the dessert for you. Peaches may not be in season, but you can still find them at your local supermarket. Slice them up, remove the pit, and get ready for fruity dessert heaven!

You’ll need to get your hands on a few amaretti cookies, or some biscotti at the least. Dark chocolate is an absolute must for this dessert, and it rounds out the flavors nicely. It’s just not fairly low in calories, but it’s easy to make in just a few minutes.

Strawberries and Honey Cream

Who doesn’t love strawberries with cream? Crazy people, that’s who! Rather than serving this dessert with classic heavy whipped cream, try to serve it with a bit of Greek yoghurt instead. Sweetened with a bit of honey, it’s even tastier than the traditional recipe – not to mention a whole lot healthier.

If you’re all about the show, this is definitely the dessert for you. Served in the right dessert cups, you’ll find that it’s one of the prettiest desserts you can serve – and all for fewer than 150 calories per small serving. Bonus: the dessert smells beautiful as well as looks gorgeous!

Fudgy Brownies

As a total sucker for brownies, this recipe is right up my alley.  They’re not exactly the same as traditional brownies, but the fact that I can still eat them while dieting has me sold! They’ve got the same chocolatey flavor thanks to the dark chocolate and cocoa that is used in the mixture.

They’re lower in calories simply because you use less buttesr, few eggs, and low-fat milk rather than the rich, whole stuff. Darn tasty, that’s for sure!

Yes, ’tis the season to be jolly, and your merry-making just got tastier thanks to these diet-friendly desserts!
