A Maine company has brewed a real lobster beer made from lobster and sea salt.

In putting things in your mouth news, the Oxbow Brewery in Newcastle, Maine has created a brand new lobster beer that combines two obvious Maine staples- lobster and beer. Called ‘Saison dell’Aragosta’, the brew is made by cooking live lobsters in unfermented beer, and then using sea salt to give it a little kick.

Originally, co-owner Tim Adams made the beer by boiling live lobsters in the beer, then eating the lobsters. For the second batch they used only the shells, and added in the sea salt to balance the sweetness of the lobster flavor.

For those of you who find the flesh of lobsters delicious and noteworthy, we need to ask: is this something you would drink? I mean, there’s a big disconnect from seemingly delicious food to chew and drink. I probably wouldn’t drink penne a la vodka, so why this lobster beer? But who knows– pickleback shots are a thing. Is this a standalone drink like a bottle of Stella, or are you expected to pair this with something?

Is this the new white wine with seafood norm? The people need to know. If you’re one of the people, leave your thoughts in the comments.
