Lizard Hands No More!

Written by Danielle

Being Florida-born and bred, I had no idea how brutal the winters up here in the ol’ Northeast could be on one’s skin. That is, until last winter during an evening subway commute that involved bleeding cracked knuckles, a kind stranger, her stock of Band-Aids, and a confused and horrified me. Ever since, I’ve been on a seemingly eternal search for the perfect hand creme to satiate my skin’s hunger for nutrients and hydration. So during a routine trip to Whole Foods, I was intrigued and delighted to find what looked to be exactly that – Skin Food by Weleda!

Skin Food by Weleda, $17.00

It’s name is what caught my eye initially, but after applying the ultra-concentrated creme blended with sweet orange, lavender, and rosemary essential oils, I quickly realized that I may have met my soul mate of hand repair potions. It took just one application to get my hands feeling soft, hydrated, and good as new!

But while Skin Food serves as more of a hero in emergency, “my skin almost chapped itself to death” situations, I came across HollyBeth’s Marigold & Sweet Basil Shea Butter to serve as an everyday maintenence worker.

HollyBeth's Marigold & Sweet Basil Shea Butter, $22

Laced with the rich scent of African Marigold and…well, Sweet Basil, this body butter melted in my palm and immediately worked it’s magic on all the dry patches that are the bane of my existance. Best yet, this isn’t a sole-purpose kind of body butter – it’s Shea Butter base offers up Vitamins A, E and F, which help protect and rejuvenate sun damaged skin, while the Sweet Basil Oil doubles as an effective insect repellant!

All in all, I’m relieved to have found these two apothecary miracles that will be my right- (and left) hand aides throughout the winter – so long, Scaly Skin!
