White Trash Wednesdays… In NYC!

Written by Bryce

Hey kids, you might’ve though that you escaped the white trash lifestyle when you left western Pennsylvania to come to the flash and sophistication of NYC, but you’re terribly wrong.  White trash is a mentality and a way of life, and even though I don’t feel qualified to claim it, I embrace it.  I encourage all my city chicks to hop in the back of an ’86 Ford pickup truck and scoot on down to Marfa in the East Village.

In all seriousness, Marfa’s Texas-style cuisine is nothing to be laughed at.  It’s damn good, and damn affordable.  I spent last Thursday night drinking and dining there with Matt, and can’t wait to go back.  The scene is laid back, semi-industrial, and just makes you want to get drunk on a random weeknight with your friends.  And you should, because their recession specials make it one of the BEST CHEAP EATS places in NYC.

On Wednesday nights, for $9 you can treat yourself to ALL YOU CAN EAT FRIED CHICKEN AND MASHED POTATOES. And if you need something to wash all that goodness down with, have a $3 Pabst.  “White Trash Wednesdays” as Marfa has affectionately dubbed this special, is fantastic and a perfect excuse to go out and get drunk with your friends in the East Village.

If you can’t make it on a Wednesday night, it’s all gravy, because the rest of the menu is worth trekking downtown for.  Some of my favorites include the fish tacos, made with fresh Mahi Mahi and served with homemade guacamole, and the vegatable quesadilla which is made with smooth, smokey gouda cheese that’ll leave you craving another for lunch the next day.  We also LOVED the mac n cheese, which I wish was much more expensive, because at only $5 I’m going to be looking for any excuse possible to get to the East Village.

And FYI, the $9 Marfarita is the best damn drink I’ve had in ages.
