Vintage Spotting: 1960s French Pop

Written by emilyc

Will French culture ever not be chic? Some people may say it’s cliche, but no, non, it’s just not. I mean, even the word “chic” is French. *Sigh* That is why I just love it when a restaurant, lounge, or store is playing French music. It just sets the most relaxed yet stylish mood. Now, thanks to an unexpected purveyor of such music (Starbucks), you can set the French tone in your own home.

Musique Pop de Paris is a collection of vintage 60s French pop – a bit more uptempo than what you would usually think of. It’s a mélange of early rock and roll sounds combined with elements of American go-go music (which gets a lot cooler when the French try their hand at it). So next time you’re at Starbucks, trade in your americano for a French press, and stop wondering what’s going on with the random CDs at the register because now you know an eclectic blend of good mood 60s pop from France is going on. Oh, and there’s always starbucksstore.com.
