True Life: Additcted to Kefir

Written by Bryce

This thick smoothie has become our new fave health kick!

I feel like I’m about to go off on some MTV-esque rant about how my urges to drink kefir can’t be controlled… and truthfully, it’s something like that.  A few weeks ago, the lovely folks at Evolve Kefir were like “Hey, did you know kefir is really good for your health and even your skin? You should def. try some!”  …ok, twist my arm, all smoothies are good smoothies to me.

If you’re not already familiar with this delish drink, “Kefir is a cultured milk beverage that contains live and active cultures that clean and strengthen the intestines and help the body with healing and maintenance functions. The health and therapeutic benefits of Kefir trace their roots back over 2000 years, to the Caucasus Mountains of Russia. Literally “feel good” in Turkish, Kefir was considered a gift from the gods due to its health-promoting properties,” according to EvolveKefir.com.

I’m all about cultured dairy products.  There’s more than enough scientific evidence that encourages us to consume them for everything from enhanced immune function to better skin, body cleansing, and digestion.  And heck, the calcium doesn’t hurt either.

I had given it a try about a year ago, and somehow during forgot how much I liked it in my I-have-a-newborn-and-don’t-even-have-time-to-eat craziness, so when I tried it again last week it was like a flood of happy memories coming back.  HOLY HECK: I can have a giant, thick smoothie every morning that’s only 180 calories?! Sign me up.

When I noticed my 15 month old staring longingly at my nearly-empty glass of blueberry kefir, I decided I’d give him a taste.  That’s when all hell broke loose.  He threw his first ever major tantrum when I took the glass away- it’s THAT good.  So we’ve instituted a routine in the Gruber household- Ben and I wake up at 6:45 AM.  He gets a sippy cup full of blueberry kefir, and I get a tall glass of pomegranate.  It’s been about a week, and Ben has been noticeably jollier in the morning, and I’ve been noticeably 3 pounds thinner.

All around win… especially for only about $4 per bottle.

Total addiction.
