Plastic Surgery Trend: Eiffel Tower Nose Jobs Versus Unemployment

Sometimes I think these things just write themselves. In 2013, there were 7 million college graduates entering the job market in China. Since everyone over there is basically stuffed into one big sardine can of educated young professionals with self esteem issues because their parents are way too involved in their education and career choices, graduates are turning to plastic surgery to get an edge on their competition. As a result, the Eiffel Tower nose job has indeed, become a thing.

The idea behind this is to mimic the curves and shape of the Eiffel Tower to make job candidates appear more attractive, because everyone knows the prettier you are, the easier your life is. The surgery actually technically enlarges the nose, using forehead tissue to create a pleasing slope. Apparently in China job recruitment ads sometimes place height and weight restrictions on their prospective employees so I can totally understand the pressure to want to be competitive. As someone who is 25% Chinese I only have one thing to say about this. I am glad I didn’t grow up in China. Mostly because I have a thing for white trash guys from below the Mason Dixon, but also because I would hate to think that my entire future hinged on whether or not my face matched some Western ideal of beauty. I would also hate if my nose was the shape of a hulking national monument.
