Laura Letinsky Still-Life Photographs

Laura Letinsky is a contemporary photographer best known for her still lifes. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, her B.F.A. is from the University of Manitoba, 1986, and her M.F.A. from Yale University School of Art, 1991. She is currently a Professor at the University of Chicago, Department of Visual Arts.

Much of Letinsky’s beautiful images allude to human presence, without including any actual figures. In this one series of photographs, Letinsky documents the aftermath of a dinner party. Faded flower petals intermingle with empty glasses and crumbs of food on partially cleared tables, covered with a white linen that bears the mark of spilled wine. These scenes are often filled with a fresh, clear light, as though one is viewing from the perspective of the morning after.
