Easy Recipes for Finnicky Kids

Written by Bryce

There’s bribery, or this.

As any mom knows, getting your kid to eat all the right things at the right time is basically a masterful science that only physicists and astronauts can even come close to mastering. My son, a three year old cuddly maniac, loves his veggies only when he’s in the mood- leaving me with a weird sense of “what now?!” on any given Tuesday lunch when I’m just trying to get some vitamins into his bloodstream. There’s good news, though, moms. There are two tried and true shortcuts that every parent needs to know:

1. Quick dried veggies. I’m totally in love with NurturMe’s line of quick dried (not freeze dried, that zaps the nutrients like a mosquito lamp) veggies. They’re easy-peasy little powders that mix into your kids fave foods without said child ever even knowing. Best idea ever: mixing a packet of vitamin-loaded quick dried butternut squash into a bowl of blue box mac & cheese. It’ll taste a smidgen sweeter (um, obviously that’s a win) and work in some necessary vitamin A and fiber. SCORE.

2. The faux lolli trick. Trying to get your kid to eat a prune? Thinking it’s impossible. Well, that’s just not true. Try buying a pack of lollipop sticks at any craft or baking store and popping the sticks in dried fruit. If the basic lolli approach isn’t enough, try dipping the fruit in a very thin layer of chocolate. Sure, darling, you can have “candy.”
