How to Look Like the Workout Type

We all do it: we put on our workout gear to run errands and frolic about town so as to fool people into thinking you just put in a few good hours at the gym. Maybe it’s just me that does it, but regardless, sometimes it’s fun to wear a “workout chic” look out and about.

Put together a convincing ensemble. The only reasonable thing to do with your designer clothes that are out of season is to turn them into workout gear. My recommendation? Marni Spring 2011. Where else are you going to wear it but to Equinox Soho? People on the street will call you out for a 2-year-old outfit, but when you put a gym spin on it, people will think you’re falling off the cutting edge of workout wear. The below look is even complete with a swim cap and goggles straight out of the YMCA pool.

Master the athletic shoe. Sandals just aren’t going to cut it. Go all out with a good old sneaker. It’ll make traversing your local grocery store, coffee shop, or Sephora (you know, the big calorie burners) that much easier. My recommendation? A shoe with a coordinating hint of color, like the below Reeboks with metallic streaks. They’re like jewelry for the feet, and one of the easiest places to find Reebok shoes is here.

Zero makeup allowed. In order to successfully trick others into thinking you’re a workout fiend, you mustn’t wear any makeup. You sweat it off at the gym, remember? Maybe a touch of lipgloss, but that’s it.

  • I’m going to NYC to Equinox and am doing just that, wearing a leotard and leg warmers, seriously! 😀 As a guy, I think guys can rock them very well like girls can! 🙂 😉

    Best,
