If it’s a funeral, lets make it the best funeral ever.

Wednesday night I saw the most terrifyingly amazing documentary directed by Dylan NSoutherland and WIll Lovelace. The film was about LCD Soundsystem’s final show at Madison Swuare Garden April 2, 2011. On April 2nd, 2011, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM played its final show at Madison Square Garden.  In an oddly professional manner with an announcement of the final show the concert instantly sold out, near four-hour extravaganza did just that, moving the thousands in attendance to tears of joy and grief, with New York Magazine calling the event “a marvel of pure craft” and TIME magazine lamenting “we may never dance again.” SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS is simultaneously a document of a once-in-a-lifetime performance and an intimate portrait of Murphy as he navigates both the personal and professional ramifications of his decision.The film follows frontman James Murphy a week prior to the show, and the following day. The film was only playing for ONE night across the nation, but thankfully the wonderful institution the International Film Center has decided to run an encore of film for one extra week. I highly recommend it. You will be crying and dancing at the same time. So…
