Even Wild Norwegian Wolves Think Creed Sucks

Written by Steph

I was Walter Ekrem’s age when Creed rose to popularity in the late ’90s. Three short years later, it was damn near impossible to avoid hearing one of their ChristXCore epic ballads on the radio. The merry band of rockers for Jesus were not unlike a Staph infection in that they were spreading like wildfire and known to cause nausea, vomiting, and possibly death. (It’s certainly no coincidence that lead singer Scott Stapp is one ‘h’ away from morphing into the infectious disease.)

A decade later, 13-year-old Walter Ekrem found himself in a pinch. He also found what American Idol judges have been searching for since 2002– one solid reason why Creed exists.

Ekrem was walking home from school in Rakkestad, Norway earlier this week when a pack of wolves tried to raise up on him. I guess knowing what to do in the case of a wolf overtaking is second nature for Norwegian youth. All I knew at 13 was the dance routine from “Hit Me Baby, One More Time.”

Confronted with a dangerous situation, Walter remembered what whoever teaches young children how to deal with packs of wolves said: do not run from the wolves. “The worst thing you can do is run away because doing so just invites the wolves to chase you down,” Walter told TV2. “But I was so afraid that I couldn’t even run away if I’d wanted to.”

Instead, he chose to scare the wolves the best way he knew how: playing Creed’s “Overcome” as loud as his phone would allow. Hell, I know if someone played a Creed song from 2010, I’d be freakin’ out. But the wolves did not freak out. “They didn’t really get scared,” Walter said. “They just turned around and simply trotted away.”

Walter, they trotted away because they felt more comfortable snickering behind your back. Why do you have Creed on your phone, kiddo? They don’t have Justin Bieber in Norway?
