Bryce Gruber’s Thoughts of the Day (leaving NY edition)

Written by Bryce

Good times, good times…

Are we to paint what’s on the face, what’s inside the face, or what’s behind it? –Pablo Picasso

1. Last Night Was Fun-o-rama. My friend Christophe invited me to a private party at Mauboussin on the Upper East Side. Ashley, Rie, and myself headed up there to try on beautiful jewelry, get silly, and obviously have a glass of champagne. The jewelry was stunning, we were as ridiculous as you can imagine a bunch of 20-something year old girls to be at a fancy jewelry store, and managed to thankfully avoid the major police scene at David Yurman (next door) that was somehow related to Sonja Morgan’s arrival (the real housewife).

2. I’m Leaving Soon! Don’t worry, I’m not leaving NYC for good… just for the weekend. It’s Super Bowl time! This is super exciting to me for a bazillion reasons, I will list some here:

  • I like football, and even though the teams in this Super Bowl aren’t necessarily exciting to me- it’s the freakin’ Super Bowl. It’s going to be good.
  • I like man food. That includes burgers, chili, varied types of nachos, and all sorts of other classy things like beer and wings. (I also like fruit salad and referring to whipped cream as chantilly)
  • I’ve never been to a pro-football game before. I grew up in a sexist house, what can I say.
  • I like traveling… to anywhere!
  • A full weekend with my boyfriend is rare and beautiful. When you have kids it’s nearly impossible to have more than one night at a time with a significant other unless they happen to share a last name and address with you.

2. I Want My Son to be a World Champion. I saw The Fighter the other night. It was pretty good, and if you haven’t seen it I’ll give you the short version. A woman’s 2nd, lesser-loved son becomes the boxing champion of the world. This sort of inspired me and made me realize what I want for my own son. I want him to be the champion of something. In fact, I really don’t care what the hell he’s the champion of- it could be writing poetry, playing pro Hockey, architecture, or sailing boats, I just want him to be so driven that his blood is filled with excitement and passion. For anything. And I want him to do well because everyone deserves to feel the joy of being the best at something.

3. You Know What’s Stupid? I think its pretty dumb that Americans don’t have more variety in their diets. We should all get out there and make some jicama salad with a chayote side dish to accompany our braised camel meat. BUTCHERS OF AMERICA: please make it easier for us to buy camel meat. Btw, on a personal note, I wonder if camels are kosher?

4. We Have A Good Time, Everywhere. Proof:
