Breyers Apple Pie a la Mode Recipe (and a giveaway!)

Written by Bryce

Is anything better than apple pie a la mode? Target and Breyers are making it easy to indulge this holiday season with this knock-your-socks off recipe and a $25 Target giftcard giveaway.

Pardon me while I completely cover my pie with ice cream.

The time for apple pie a la mode indulgence has arrived (although it’s always, always, always in my heart). For a limited time the Breyers Gelato Indulgences are 2 for $8 at Target (and 2 ice creams are always better than one, #amiright?). They come in a number of irresistible flavors like Vanilla Caramel and Raspberry Cheesecake. They’re perfect for the holidays, as cake toppers (topping every cake in America with gelato is going to be my first move as president, I think). From now until 1/3/15 Breyers Ice Cream is only $3.49 at Target. Head in-store and take advantage of this special pricing and make a dessert your family and friends will love

Now for the recipe… it should be noted that in my house I bake the pie and then let my kids scoop their own ice cream. The hands-on, everyone’s-involved aspect makes it super fun and each bite that much more delish.

BREYERS APPLE PIE A LA MODE

ingredients

· 2 refrigerated pie crusts

· 1/2 cup PLUS 1 Tbsp. sugar, divided

· 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

· 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

· 1/2 tsp. salt

· 3 1/2 lbs. golden delicious apples [or Granny Smith– I like the tart apples against the sweet, creamy ice cream] peeled, cored and thinly sliced

· 1 Tbsp. lemon juice

· 1 egg, lightly beaten with 2 tsp. water

· 4 cups Breyers® Natural Vanilla Ice Cream (if you’re a fan of vanilla, this is the crispest, cleanest vanilla flavor and I’ve been topping every dessert in the world with it lately)

· 1 pouch Breyers Caramel Flavored Ice Cream Sauce

directions

Line 9-inch pie plate with one pie crust. Leave edges overhanging; chill until ready to use.

Combine 1/2 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt in large bowl. Add apples and lemon juice and toss to coat. Arrange apples in prepared pie crust, mounding in center. Place second crust over apples and press gently to adhere to lower crust. Fold overhanging crust over; flute edge and cut a small hole in center to vent. Chill 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Brush pie with egg wash. Sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar. Place on baking sheet in the lower third of the oven. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees. Bake additional 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, until apples are tender, filling is bubbling and crust is golden.

Cool on wire rack before serving.

Top with Breyers® Natural Vanilla Ice Cream. Eat a spoon or two before, it’s good luck in most cultures (I think).

Drizzle Breyers Caramel Flavored Ice Cream Sauce on top and serve.
