Art Crave: Vintage Book Carvings

Written by Ashley

A literal take on the art of words.

A scientist by trade, artist Julia Feld uses her fine tuned attention to detail & above par aesthetic nature to create beautifully re-mastered books for sort of grown-up dioramas made out of vintage books. And by vintage, she means completely disposable & outdated. These dictionaries & topography books seen below, are the norm. Feld’s practice never strays toward books of current use.

Her ‘weapons of choice’? Exacto knives, rotary cutters, tweezers, rulers, pliers, files, custom cut panes of glass, and lots of glue.  If that doesn’t sound like a near frog disection, I don’t know what does.
