Soursop is an amazing, delicious tropical fruit. Also known as “graviola”, it looks and tastes a lot like custard apples. Yet it’s more than just a delight to eat–it’s also amazing for your health! Here are some of the many health benefits of soursop:

  • Rich in vitamins — Soursop contains a good deal of Vitamin C, which helps to improve the health of your skin, hair, and immune system. You also get B vitamins (B1, B2, etc.) that will balance your metabolic and endocrine systems. This vitamin-rich fruit is definitely good for your health overall!
  • Arthritis treatment –– Soursop contains anti-inflammatory properties, meaning they can help to reduce swelling in your body. Arthritis is a condition where the tissue around your joints swell up, so eating soursop will help to reduce the swelling and increase mobility and flexibility in your joints.
  • Pain killer –– Soursop contains natural pain relieving compounds that can provide relief from a wide range of aches and pains. It’s not as effective as a traditional painkiller, but it will offer minor pain relief.
  • Improves skin health –- The juice of the soursop can do amazing things for your skin! First, the Vitamin C it contains will help your skin produce more collagen, the protein needed for healthy, elastic skin. The juice will help to reduce inflammation on your skin, and may be effective at treating problems like eczema and leprosy. The antioxidant content of the fruit makes it a useful anti-aging treatment, and you may be able to reduce edema (swelling under the skin) thanks to the fruit.

Soursop is a natural digestive aid, and it can treat a wide range of digestive problems. Thanks to its high fiber content, it can help to soften your stool and reduce constipation.
  • Potentially fight cancer –– Soursop leaves, seeds, and pulp all contain acetogenins, an antioxidant compound that interferes with cancerous cells’ ability to reproduce. Essentially, they prevent the cancer from spreading, helping to keep cancers under control. While further studies are needed to obtain definitive proof of the treatment’s effectiveness, preliminary research has indicated that soursop extract may help to improve cases of pancreatic, liver, lung, breast, and prostate cancer.
  • Sleep aid –– Did you know that soursop contains tryptophan, a chemical that helps you to sleep? It’s the same chemical found in turkey, the one that makes you sleepy after a big Thanksgiving meal. Eating soursop can help to reduce insomnia and promote healthy sleep.
